about

This was written for the first round of a songwriting competition called Spintunes. The challenge was to write a song from the perspective of a super hero.

lyrics

The point of no return
Is all I see
I was living life for you
That’s all I could be
Our future looked Brite
But I guess I saw the Lite.
So I’m packing up and I’m gonna
Let it be
It don’t matter, all the times I
Pulled you through.
All the rainbow-colored bridges
I rode with you.
Those times have come and gone
And the time’s come, to move on
But I’m alone, and I’m afraid
I don’t know what to do.

Rainbow, Rainbow Brite.
Don’t you remember your friend
Starlite?

The Color Kids abandoned
Long ago
The Sprites you left to mine
All on their own
Now all of Rainbow Land has died,
You don’t know how that feels inside.
You can’t remember how I loved you so.

Rainbow, Rainbow Brite
Don’t you remember your friend
Starlite?

What am I to you,
Am I your mode of transportation?
Or am I
Something more?
Am I your steed? Am I your sidekick?
Am I the source of your frustration?
Or can I be the friend that you once adored?

...Rainbow Brite
Don’t you remember your friend
Starlite?

Rainbow, Rainbow Brite
Don’t you remember your friend
Starlite?
